Lesvos Traditional Music Festival
A two-day Festival-Tribute in Plomari
17 & 18 July 2009
On Friday and Saturday, 17-18 July 2009, in the marina of picturesque Plomari, Lesvos, there will be a Festival of particular interest dedicated to the “Musical Traditions of Lesvos”. The Festival, which is being organized by the Cultural Association of Plomari, “the Polion”, in collaboration with the Municipality of Plomari, includes lectures presented by distinguished academics and researchers of our musical tradition, but also concerts
performed by local musicians and musical dance ensembles. The Cultural Association of Plomari«Αlkaeos», the Anagnostirio of Agiasos, the dance team «Glentistades» of Mesotopos Association, the dancing of Municipality Plomari. It should be noted that this event is a tribute to old musicians of Lesbos
According to the outstanding researcher, Simona Kara, Mytilene is “the window to the Near East”. It resembles a bridge, which connects the musical world of ancient Greece with the Near East, and that reaches the current times, despite globalization, to keep alive a tradition that is rich in timbre, imagery and historical elements based on music that with care and respect remains true to all that has been transmitted from the past. While the musical part of the festival involved the following:
1st day: Solon Lekkas, the chorus “Alkaeos” and the residents of the wider region of Plomari with the accompaniment of the music group «The Aigaiates» and the dancing of the Municipality Plomari
2nd day traditional music of Agiassos, the musical group “Paralos”, Giota Michalelli and the residents of the wider region of Plomari and the dance troupe, «Glentistades» of the Mesotopos Association, “the Renaissance”
